WHO?

As DRIFT's founder and principal engineer, Matt Stiasny brings over 15 years of diverse experience in both the geothermal and oil & gas sectors. His career has been shaped by a passion for innovation, problem-solving, and creating lasting value for clients. Drawing on a strong technical foundation and an extensive professional network, he specializes in delivering tailored solutions that drive success in complex energy projects.

After getting multiple requests to consult with engineers, contractors, regulatory bodies, and operators, Matt recognized that his ability to navigate complex geographies, disciplines, and projects started a niche position in the industry.

He created DRIFT to extend his services and BRIDGE THE GAP between traditional techniques and unique engineering SOLUTIONS.

Matt earned both his BS in Mechanical Engineering (2011) and MS in Engineering and Technology Management (2012) from the Colorado School of Mines—an institution known for excellence in energy and earth sciences. Since then, he has built a career grounded in technical expertise, strategic insight, and hands-on project execution.

Whether guiding early-stage project development, optimizing systems, or overseeing the execution of high-profile projects, DRIFT takes pride in delivering reliable results and building lasting partnerships.

WHY?

WHY THE NAME DRIFT?

Both Matt's father and grandfather worked underground in the uranium "drift" mines of Southwest Colorado. Growing up with the stories of two collective careers underground, he developed a respect and appreciation for the process, hard work, and adaptability required in that environment. In the business world the same principles are crucial for success. Just like drift mining, where miners like his father and grandfather extended their drift by following a vein of ore through unpredictable subsurface terrain, companies must navigate complex and ever-changing landscapes.
